Visit to BSNL....

Again need to visit the BSNL office, Koramangala as I didn’t get my bill as usual and hence have to take the duplicate to pay off. Went there around 9:15 but not even a single employee was present. And they counters started opening with an average delay of 15 minutes. So after a wait of 40 minutes the enquiry counter got opened and found out the process of activating STD and ISD. The woman in the counter was sooooooooooooo cooperative. I was just surprised about that kind of treatment in a government office and after that needed a photocopy of my id proof for the application, so a trip to the shop and after coming back .... Fill few more things and again need the photocopy of the completed one which I would have done earlier itself :( one more trip the shop again. Later I found out that she was giving me instructions one at a time; Not sure why she did it making me go round and round but at the end it was good and all the insturctions were pretty clear.

Also they initially entered my address wrong and I asked for updating the same. Again the one who is supposed to do didn’t turn up yet and so she copied all the address into a paper slip including my mobile number. Just wondered how that slip is going to help. I asked if an application is required for which she said no. Not knowing what to do and hoping that it would be done I decided to leave it there and pay the bill.

Now the counter where they accept the card is not at opened as the employee is not present there. By then the queue for the cash counter which was free when I came turned out into a long queue. Surprisingly noticed the amount to be paid is same before and after the due date too. So decided not to waste time and try to do it online as today is the last day for the payment:). Came out wondering and feeling good for the kind of response I got which I never ever experienced in a government office.

Reached office late and paid the bill online. At the end transaction not logged. Now not at all sure what is going to happen:). The bank said success and the BSNL site said fail. Need to wait and see few days for the result.

And I got a call again from the office on my mobile informing me that the address has been updated which I never ever expected to happen. That was when I decided to write this entry as a token of appreciation for the service they provided. Not sure if the address is changed yet but then they deserve it :)

At last .. once again..

It was long since I posted a blog. Couldn't find time these days to write one and you will always have some useless work which requires attention and that too more than one at once :) so it happens like that. Quite busy these days and after that took a vacation and went home. Enjoyed for 5 days, went to beach and visited relatives and all in all it was quite relaxing. Today came back to Bangalore. As usual tired and a bit of work at office. Went home and came back now to office to do attend blah blah blah?.

The past few days were good. As the year ends shortly need to re-cap the past and see if it was fruitful. Of course many things happened and many things didn't happen too :P but at the end what is it. Planning to write a blog entry on few of these by year end. Hopefully may get some time to write.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

- Robert Frost

I know many of you have read this poem many times. Time for me now to tell you something about this.

Well today we missed few roads even after following proper signs. That’s the irony of Indian Roads. Only after you reach the end you will know that it closed or a wrong way and you still have directions pointing it :) and you end up in a road that is never taken. Trust me this is what happens on Bangalore – Mysore (Kanakapura Road) highway if you follow proper directions that you will come across. Spoiled my evening :( which I was expecting to be one of the best. That is when I thought of writing some comments about this poem which was on my mind for quite some time. I remember this from the books I have read in my childhood. Of course I don’t read any now. The Road Never Taken made this all :)

This poem didn’t make any sense when I first read it, as a kid. In fact I felt the author might be mad to write such a poem and of course the publisher too to publish it. It was like, what his problem; he can take the 2 different roads on 2 different days and still try both of them. For this he has to write a poem and people read it. And that was the understanding when I was a kid. Don’t laugh; I am sure yours will also be the same.

Now after passing considerable time in my life, I know what it means. You can never take two ways. Always a choice when you have to decide having multiple options. And life has too many choices for everything. Once you chose something, there is no coming back. That’s what ruined my evening too a wrong choice of road. The end of 3rd stanza and the 4th stanza says it all.

What is that one is going to do when it is realized that the way taken was wrong. There is no going back. Stick with it for the life time? Feel bad for opting a wrong choice which took where you are now? Feel good for what you have now? Regret for doing that? Accept that a mistake that cannot be corrected is done? Justify your choice, expecting the other road might have been worse? Ignore the choice taken, the past and focus on the remaining part?

After all this now you have two roads again. Which one to take? :).

So you end up with more confusion considering the past choices and their effects and trying to decide now on what we think the learning from the personal experience.

Ok now can you be sure it is the right choice and “I doubted if I should ever come back”.

The more you live the more you get experience the choices get more and more complicated.

This is what Life is all about. Making your choices right where you don’t have a second chance.

The paths are totally different and so are the things that come along, the people, the places, the joys, the sorrows.

I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
Frost never expressed that the road he took is a better one or worse. All it says is a sigh :), which can be expressed both when one is happy and sad too and also he just says that it is a difference made not making it clear it is a positive or negative.

So there is something tricky about this poem which Frost left it for breaking your heads now :). Now find the sigh and the difference. I am still doing. Join me…? LOL

Need to catch up some sleep before I go to work tomorrow...

A Designer at HIS Best

Last week on one of sleepless nights not knowing what to do stepped out into my balcony. It has been raining for the past 2 days and it rained that day evening too. I think it was quarter past two when I went out. I actually thought of seeing what the neighbourhood will be like during that time of the night. As I stepped out what I saw was a view that cannot be expressed in any way.  It is just the clouds passing by, not very big but they are travelling very fast. May be in a minute or two you can loose track if you follow them. Added to this the cold night with chilly wind in the light of the moon … well what else to explain..?  Just wondering about the beautiful sight that no painter on earth will ever be able to produce; what can one think of other than the one who made it possible?

The running clouds which carry the rain, why do their speeds vary? There are days where you can still see the same could for hours together and now they disappear in few seconds. Who directs them? And my thoughts went on to whole universe which have everything in place of which these clouds are a part. Everything in the solar system just goes on with ones own systems in place working perfectly each day even after these many thousands of years.

And now coming to the title: Ever wondered what it took to build a system like this which didn’t fail for these many years, is never going to fail and is still in control of the one who created it? We too humans build so many things every day, plan many things, take the small things into consideration, with all the knowledge we have and is in the scope of it, how many of them succeed? It is only Him who can design it so well, flaw less, considering every thing of it from beauty to the functional aspect.

Thinking of all this and comparing myself to this big unimaginable system of which I am part of, how small is me. My eyes are filled with tears as I remembered that He cares for me in all this and He thinks of me and remembers me too in this big whole world where some one close may not do. All I could do is just bow down to the PERFECTIONIST for what He had been, what He is and what he will be.

Convenience

There are two super markets in the area I live. Now both of them have got almost the same stuff and I always go to only one of them even the other is equally good. I have also purchased in the other one when I am passing by that way (both of them are pretty close by) but these days I end up going to always one which is a more distant of these 2 may be by some 50 meters.

So it happened today that I went to the same place and while returning I was just wondering what is that it makes me always come here and not the other one.

The answer is Convenience :). I mostly go there for getting some food stuff, daily needs and it is always like a quick buy I want to do having a list of things I need always on my mind. It doesn’t need a leisure shopping of groceries for a single guy. So these things are located close by to the billing counters here. And the other products that are daily essential are just on the way to the billing counter. So this makes my job easier not to walk around a lot. It is like I enter the shop and walk to wards the billing counter may be 30 feet or so and by the time I reach there I have everything I need. In the other one the billing counter is the other end and has a separate entry and exit. I have to walk back the entire length again after the purchase to reach my scooter.Also the daily needs stuff is at one corner of the shop which you need to go pick up and come back to the billing. It is just a matter of hardly few steps but it has got a huge effect psychologically:)

Well the conclusion is Convenience matters!!!

Felt like wasted time reading this.. Any way you would have wasted it but at least you read something now.

A date with Linux

My office laptop is on dual boot with Fedora Core 9 and Windows XP Professional. I use Linux at times but not continuously. So yesterday I decided to use Linux at office and see if I will reach a situation where I can do with out Windows. Configuring the IMs and Mail took some time. And next comes playing mp3, support which has been removed due to legal issues. Not knowing what to do have to take the help of Linux Forums on the net and I got what I need in few minutes the sequence of commands to execute to install and play :) Cool and I don’t miss playing my mp3s now. And I went on using at till the evening with out any problems. As my work is also on Linux servers – No Microsoft Technologies:), I didn’t face any problem from that front too.

At the end of the day the experience was quite good.
Getting used to the fonts, icons and the UI was a bit difficult. Tough there are no technical problems even by evening I was feeling like the UI needs some more control in customization. May be it is already there and I don’t know how to…..

And the animations on the desktop are just awesome. Not sure if MS can provide such features ever. The switching over to the next desktop, dragging and what else … everything almost was really good.  I was playing with them when ever I got bored.

There are too many options for the utilities required, which confuses what to use and you will end up evaluating all of them.  But almost all the things you need (for a developer) are there by default including the Project Management Tool which is lot better in terms of usability than the Microsoft Project though the options are less.

All it takes is a better UI and nothing else to make the Linux user-friendly.

The night it rained.....

Well this a story that one of my friends mailed. I like the naration of this and ofcourse the stroy too.. Sorry if this is someone's copyright. I would be happy to remove this from here and give a link to the original one if you let me know. Ok now here it goes... Don't forget to read my comments about it at the end.'

********************

"Lets go for a walk", said Rahul.
"Yippee. Lets go", said Swetha, almost jumping out of her seat.

It was yet another boring day in the Mysore training institute. Dusk was breaking in. Swetha had already taken two breaks since lunch.Nevertheless, she had been anticipating Rahul's invitation for another  break.

Rahul and Swetha had known each other for the last couple of months.   They had been together since the training days. People knew them as the best of friends. Rahul, the regular T-D-H type, who spoke with a heavy Bengali accent, was a popular in the DC. On the other hand, Swetha was a chubby sweet little girl, who was always on the lookout for sorrow souls. They enjoyed being in each other's company.  Swetha would disclose all his crushes to Rahul, and Rahul would always  be seen taking classes from Swetha, on how to impress a girl in 24  hours. Rahul had helped Swetha to forget her 7-year-old single lane  relationship and Swetha would see to it that Rahul would never be  lonely. Most of the time, they were together. People admired, some even sneered with jealousy, the relation that these two shared.

The walk today was unusually long.

"This is gonna be one of our last walks", muttered Rahul in a low tone.

"I know", replied Swetha in a soft, almost inaudible voice.

Mysore DC had completed the long cycle training and the postings had been announced the previous day. Swetha was posted at Mysore base location, while Rahul would have to shift to Bangalore. Even though they both always knew that they had to separate one day... they did not expect it to happen so soon.

Swetha, who belonged to the sentimental group, looked at Rahul and managed to pass a disguised smile. "I tried my best for a swap. The HRC is stubborn. She is still holding on to 'EURP P.U. doesn't encourage swaps.' I cannot stay here alone Rahul."

"I swear, I am gonna miss you badly too dear" replied Rahul, again faking a smile.

"Hey don't worry sweetie, Mysore is just three hours from Bangalore.  Just call me and I will be here." said Rahul, trying to cheer her up, though his words did not light up Swetha's face.

She just replied with a frown. "You will be busy with your new girl friends and your work. You will soon forget me"

"Hey come on!" said an offended Rahul. "You are my best friend. Can I ever forget you dear?"

"You just wait and see", came an almost sobbing reply.

"Don't start crying dear." Said Rahul with a gloomy face... "Oh... by the way... it's getting late... let's go back" he said, taking a U-turn.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As destiny wanted......... the next week saw Rahul packing his bags for Bangalore, while Swetha moved out of her PG, to a rented apartment closer to her office. They parted with a few wet handkerchiefs. The bus started moving. Rahul looking through the Volvo glass was trying to say something to Swetha.  is actions deciphered, as "I will call u when I reach there. Gonna miss you. Take care... Bye-Bye"
Swetha was comforted by her own tears. She felt very lonely, as if she had lost something. Something, very precious. Consoling herself, she went back to her room, shut the door, and started sobbing again.   She had found a very good friend in Rahul, and he was her major support. She had no clue in the beginning that she would get so much attached and more important... too much dependent on him. She sobbed herself to sleep.
A couple of hours later, she heard her mobile ringing. One look at the tiny screen, which happened to display, "Rahul calling..." and she    was overjoyed. She answered the call with a "Hey... You reached so soon? How was the trip?"
"Yo dear! Just reached. Bangalore seems to be bliss. The climate is almost like Mysore. It is wonderful... though Mysore was better....   Coz I miss you badly here..."
"I miss you too dear," said Swetha... trying to stop her tears. They talked on for almost an hour. Swetha was all the time advising him, on what to do and what not to do. And Rahul was responding with a "Yes dear" "Ofcourse I will" "Sure, I wont"
A couple of days had gone by. They used to call each other every day.   They did not miss the good morning / good evening / how are you / I am  fine .... SMS almost every hour. Thanks to the Airtel to Airtel free  SMS scheme. Slowly the days went by. Two weeks had past since they  parted.
That Saturday, Rahul called up Swetha in the morning and said... "Hey Swetha... you know what... I am gonna have a terrific weekend. We are going to check out Nandi hills today."
"We? What do you mean by we?" asked a puzzled Swetha.
"Oh Oh. I completely forgot to tell you about my new friend. She is so cute. We are in the same project. We both are going to the hill station. Just about to leave... So thought of calling you up and say a hi."
  Somehow the "hi" was not so enticing for Swetha. Back there, she was finding it hard to talk to anyone after Rahul left, while on the other hand, someone had already taken her place in Rahul's life. She managed to mumble out "That's great Rahul. Have a nice time... and enjoy yourself." She was kinda upset, but dint show it.
   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Days went by and Swetha was feeling that the distance between her and Rahul was slowly increasing.

Then one day... the phone at her desktop rang. "Swetha... you have to go to Bangalore for one week to gather the details of our APPLE project". It was the  oice of her PM. Swetha could hardly believe her ears. "Wow! What luck! I can meet Rahul for a week," she said to herself. She was very much happy and excited over this new twist. As luck would have it... it was Rahul's birthday next week. She thought of giving him a big surprise. Therefore, she hid the news from him.

Next week, Swetha was in Bangalore. Thanks to the huge crowd of people, she managed to go unnoticed by anyone, especially Rahul, for the first day. It was evening. She had left office early. She went to the market and brought some beautiful flowers. She had been waiting for this day. Flowers have this magical way of pleasing people... and so she was choosy in selecting them. Rahul was her best friend, and she cared a lot about him.

Taking the flowers home, she had her dinner and was waiting for time to pass. She knew Rahul's address... she left the hotel at 11:30 and hired a taxi to reach Rahul's place. It was a short distance away, so she reached pretty soon. She groped around and found out his flat. The lights were still on. She frowned. She wanted this to be a magnificent surprise and hence had expected him to be sleeping. Nevertheless, she timidly went to the door and rang the  ell. The door opened in a few seconds... There was Rahul. "Happy birthday..." said Swetha. Rahul was stunned. He could not believe his eyes. Taking the flowers, he said.

"Oh gosh! Thank you so much Swetha. I never expected you... come on...   come inside..." Swetha removed her shoes and went in. Little did she knew that there was a bigger surprise waiting for her inside. She saw that the room was decorated and there was a birthday cake, which had candles on it. There was a pretty girl standing there in blue denims and a red top.

"Err... Swetha let me introduce you to Neha. And Neha, this is my friend Swetha" The girls exchanged smiles and said Hi to each other.   Swetha felt uncomfortable. She wanted to be the first one to wish him on his birthday. But look here! It seemed that someone else had already done it. Still, controlling her feelings, she did not react.

They sang the birthday song together, cut the cake, and had fun. The Party was over. Swetha said, "Rahul, it's getting late, I will leave now. Can you tell me where can I find a taxi?"

"Hey, are u nuts or what? It is very late. You don't need to go anywhere. Sleep here tonight. Even Neha has decided to stay back."

Swetha would never have accepted this, but the last line "Even Neha has decided to stay back" drove her to say, "Well, if you insist, I will stay back."

The next day morning, once again Shweta wished Rahul and left for her hotel.

Work was hectic. She met Rahul for his dinner party in the evening.   Neha was with him. She found this annoying, but as usual, did not utter a word.

The next day morning, she called Rahul and said... "You mean fellow, you haven't shown me around Bangalore. I am free today evening. Take me to the good places"

"Sure we will do that baby." Was his reply.

The day was boring for Swetha with not much work to do. She waited until five and then buzzed him on his cell. "Where are you Rahul? Come on... let's go!"

"Oh... I am so sorry Swetha; I have this telecon thing... I am gonna be late... just wait for some time... please dear"

"Sure I will wait dear, you finish your work. Tell me where are u, I will come there and cheer you up", said Swetha.

"Hey that's fine dear. No need to take any trouble... Besides, Neha is also here."

Swetha was surprised. She had not expected him to say this. This time, not knowing how to react... she was searching for words to reply... she struggled and said... "Well.. err .... Rahul.. I am.. err very tired.. I think I will go back... err.. Let us go tomorrow..."   Rahul replied "Wow, that's fine... no problem. We will surely go tomorrow okay, thanks a ton Swetha for understanding."

Unfortunately tomorrow never came. Rahul was busy with one thing or the other. She was feeling all the more lonely and desolate. The feeling that Neha had replaced her position sank her. A frustrated and irritated Swetha was waiting for her last day in Bangalore.

That day, she did not expect Rahul to call her. So to inform him that she is leaving, she called him in the evening and told him that she is leaving in an hour. She was shocked by Rahul's reply. "Oh I am so sorry dear; I won't be able to come to see you off. Today I have a very important meeting, I am really sorry yaar." "Its okay Rahul", said Swetha, thinking at the back of her mind... what meeting could Rahul possible have after office hours.

Heartbroken by the crushing changes she found in her best friend, she left for the Majestic bus station and boarded her bus. She kept on looking outside as if she was expecting a miraculous surprise. But no one turned up. Resting her head on the slide seat, she closed her eyes. Memories of those wonderful times spent with Rahul were flashing in front of her eyes. She did not have any grudges that Rahul had replaced her, but what pricked her was how easily she was forgotten and forsaken. The journey was perhaps the dullest and saddest for Swetha.
   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back in Mysore, and back to work, Shweta was trying to cope up with life. After a week, Rahul called her up. She did not want to create an issue, but just could not stand it. She blurted out everything. She asked him to give an explanation. His reply was "Look Swetha, you are a very good friend of mine. But now, there is someone more important in my life. Someone with more priority. Swetha... I am in love with Neha." The words were so cold that Swetha could feel its bite.
Gathering all the bits of her remaining calm, she sobbed and said. "I don't have any problem with that Rahul. But falling in love doesn't essentially mean that you have to forsake your old friends"
"You have never fallen in love. What will you know about love, Swetha?"
Rahul's words shattered her heart. She had never expected to hear this from the person she cared and loved the most. She quietly cut the phone. She shut her eyes tight and cried.
That night it rained.
   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One should never forget our friends, coz it hurts. It hurts a lot, when  you feel that you have been replaced... when you have been forsaken...   and when you have been forgotten and when you are no longer wanted.

****************************************

And now... well I hope you have enjoyed this story. Is Rahul wrong or Swetha?. Being the narrator I should give Swetha my sympathy for the situation. But why did she failed to realise the fact that this can happen even to her some day. So that day waht if Rahul feels bad about it. Its just because Rahul did it before her she became like this :(.  What if it happened to her earlier than Rahul? Is this envy? jealousy? or feeling or getting lost.

Every one  have their own lives to live unless you have a partner/spouse/fiancee who takes out yours too (For Guys).. The day has still only 24 hours. It doesn't increase as you add one more friend. You want to spend time with some one more now.. Steal it (steal makes sense) some where in that 24 hrs.  And this is what life is... :)

The moral of the story "One should not forget .........."  Good.. Meetings.. Calls... sending time together ... is not there doesn't mean one is forgotten. I do accept that this happens when one is forgotten but not the case always.

So find out if you are really forgotten before giving up on some one.

Mysore Dasara

All of a sudden I found myself in planning to go to Mysore to watch Dasara procession. Ended up going there. Started in the morning reached Kamath for breakfast and ? got a juice with a dead spider. Reached Mysore by afternoon. Tried to get a glimpse of the palace, but the crowd that assembled to see it was huge. To get in it needs a ticket which were sold off a month ago. Buses were parked all along its side for the spectators. To watch it from the top of bus it is 100 bucks per head. There was huge competition for that too. Standing on a bus in the sun for doesn’t look like a good idea. Went out and had lunch at RR. Later decided to go the Bannimantap where the procession ends to watch it there. But the auto driver told that it will be too late by the time it reaches that place. So again went back to catch the procession in the middle of the road somewhere.

Walked along the side of the procession way to find a good place to stand and watch and came to a junction where the view is better. After a wait of some 20 mins we saw the procession coming. And the starting itself was good. Then one by one all the display vehicles, horses, elephants and the folk dancer, musicians and people who do different kind of feats came along.

The music, the beats, the dances they made was awesome. Witnessing something like that live is an experience that cannot be told.

Also the Tejas (war plane), Tanks, Rocket launchers came in the procession. It was quite long may be it took almost 2 hours to pass through that junction where we are standing. Every one involved completely in the procession. From the people organizing it to the people who are playing music, dance one can see a complete involvement and joy of performing that.

We saw a bomb detecting squad with all their instruments scanning the place so expected the end of procession is near. And then comes a Jammer with lot of security behind, all of them carrying automatic machine guns and heavily armed. At last the we could see Balaram carrying the God in the procession followed by huge swarm of ambulances, fire engines, police vehicles and what not :)

Went and did some shopping. From there planned to go to Bannimantapa to see the torchlight ceremony. After waiting in traffic jam for long, reached the place to find that we need a ticket to get in and they got over a week back. So went back to place to see its lighting. It amazing to see it with so many bulbs. May be all those bulbs can light the entire Mysore homes.

Returning back was a bit difficult with too much of traffic. Almost like on the Bangalore Ring Road but at a high speed. Had a nice dinner at McDonalds out in the nature with cool breeze. Returned to Bangalore safely by God’s Grace.

Here are few pics from the trip.

Safari or Chrome

Hello, Safari user! Unfortunately, the photoblog is having a hard time with Safari right now, but we're working on it as fast as we possibly can. Until we can get a fix in place, would you mind giving Firefox a shot?
This is what happens on the msn site of  Microsoft. Looks like they didnt figure out how to identify Chrome or may be they don't want to acknowledge. What ever why does MS think these are the only three browsers avaliable on earth.

Prefectly and confidently  Safari User!!!!!!! MS too dumb or Chrome intelligent?

YO! Home Connected Now

Yo Yo Yo!!!! At last the BSNL had decided not to frustrate me any more and became kind enough to provide me a net connection and I got it after a wait of 5 months almost. And this is the way that government services work in India. Nothing new, but then the waiting kills. They will not have any contact numbers and no one picks up the calls when you call on office numbers. It really surprises that people living in IT city doesn’t have a contact number :). Well is IT city so bad or the people. I was lucky enough not to roam around their office. In fact even now I don’t know where the office is:). Now the home too is connected to the internet. Another time waste utility has come at home now. Need to see how best to use it. Now expecting more blog entries? Hmm I don’t think so there are many better things to do… After all life always looks at making things better…

War Zone

We at office went to team outing and played Paintball. It was amazing fun. Reached there around 3pm and then the organizer divided us into 4 teams. And I came into team 1 and we named our team "Fearless Warriors" with a War Cry "meow". We were the first to start the game. The fighting gear that we put on was good and the mask was horrible blocking the breath. But unless you put them on you are not allowed to play so will have to. As the bigger war field is busy we ended up using a smaller one. We had referees to confirm if you are dead :). And every one was like more than real warriors in the battle fields. Once they got in its like going to shoot the real enemies. No one wanted to guard but every one wanted to fight. That’s a league we played. So we got to play 3 games. It is real fun. Even watching how people go and fight.

Even as other teams are playing we were confident that we are going to win and Yo! We won all the 3 games, with a a very high margin. The organizer announced the scores and the whole team cheered. He also added that it is the highest score that some one ever made there. And again the cheers went high. And it was real fun.

Went to resort and had swum there which was so relaxing after the tiring war. Had dinner and returned.

Next day at office.. Every ones walking style changed coz of the pains. And people have stories of the pains and started telling how bravely they fought. So most of the day went discussing the heroism of each warrior. And I have my story too... :D

Waiting to go there again.....

Microsoft to Pull Seinfeld TV Commercials

Its been long and I couldn't get time to write an entry.. but I think after seeing this news I just culdn't stop wirting it :). It is a great news that Microsoft itself found that the ads with Seinfeld are crap and are pulling out. Well who on earth will see those junk ads. But we have to accept the fact that they are on microsoft standards like their products :D . Not knowing how to spend money Bill Gates spent $10 mn for these. Only after spending so much did they realiease it. Good some one else might have benifited by it :).

LHC ...

World didn’t come to an end, of course not so soon also they haven't started any experiment, but all that was done is testing the devices if they work fine not sure when the actual testing is likely to happen. 10% of the scientists are from India, which is great. But when is the testing happening and the conclusions given. Will have to wait and see.

Apple released a new nano and touch. They are quite good but not Steve Jobs. Will have to wait and see what apple has in store. Not planning to go for any of them :) financial constraints for a poor guy like me :) All these only after a D 90. Couldn’t sleep well these days. Not feeling well today tried to sleep but couldn’t so writing this now, not knowing what to do. Also the damn phone kept ringing, have to answer the calls.

Well have to start sleeping now else it will be difficult tomorrow at work.

World coming to an end today?

Interesting.... Whooping $7.75 billion for a single machine that is a part of the test to simulate Big Bang Theory? Well what is that they are trying to find out. The effort of thousands of engineers and scientists for 10 years created the Large Hadron Collider.

So rumors and concerns about earth being not able to withstand to the test are already on. And in today's news its reported taht too many people visited temples and are not going out of home. Do you think the scientists haven’t thought about the after effects of this experiment? 10 years of research can’t miss that.

What if the world is going to end today?  If earth cannot withstand the test and terrible things happen where will you be and what will you be missing

I may miss writing the blog and this would be my last so writing it from office :) If earth can’t survive do you think google servers will survive?

Ha ha .. Enough let me get back to work now…

Watch out at 12:30 PM. Will update the news as soon as I get some thing. Keep watching…

Display Devices and Power Consumption

Recently I have got a new laptop at work the battery lasts up to 3 hours and it purely depends on the screen brightness I am using it. I use it in moderate brightness even when power is on. Today I was discussing some FS of mine and have connected it to the projector. It was working in a mode that display is only on the projector and I was using the application in full screen mode. And its almost 3 hours when I remembered that the power have to be plugged in. I immediately switched to normal mode to check out what percentage of battery is still left. To my surprise it showed it can last for another 2 hour 44 mins. I just couldn’t believe that. Later I realized it was due to my display on laptop was off.

The processor and the entire hardware consumed only 40% for more than 3 hours so 60% of the power is used up by the display in the normal mode. Hmmmmm Now do if we can have more power efficient display devices the same batteries can give a long back up and in turn less recharge which leads to low total power consumption and in saving energy:) so start finding one now.

So Moral of the story is… Keeping the brightness of the display device low is not only good for eyes but also will consume less power.

Save Energy! Save Earth!

He he too much isn’t it?

Why Open Sources failed to capture the market?

Microsoft and Apple the major two players in the operating system sector have captured quite a good amount of market may be entire before the actual open sources started developing. Now as usual when you have a system in place and is good no one wants to even look at other options even there are better things available. There might be several bugs and security issues with Windows but people still tend to use that (including me, but at least I will have dual boot always even the office laptop) because they are used to it. Now that people are used to a kind of interface they find the other user interface difficult to learn.

A typical example a Nokia phone user will find it difficult to use any other mobile. So all the other mobile’s interface is bad is false knowing that all other manufacturers are having the same amount of market.  It’s the same with other brand mobile users with Nokia. So actually it is not that the things are actually bad, but it is that people are not used to.

Coming back to the open sources at least to make people try you have to tell them it is better, to tell them it is better it has to go through some media, to go through some media it involves cost, for those costs some one has to support and pay. Huh? Now in spite of spending effort to write good programs and giving them free some one has to pay to make the user use it? Sounds awful.

So what is the way out now?

To be continued..

So Today.....

Reached home on time today and it started raining after I reached it started raining badly and as usual the power went off and so in dark :) This is what happens to the IT City. Had a busy day at office, and was not feeling well so reached home early. It rained quite long almost for 2 hours continiously.

Took a bit of rest and started to write this entry. Today have seen the Microsoft Ad of the Shoe Circus and was surprised to see how stupid ads can be. So they have started the ad campaign now. But why? Insecure about the open source or the free soft wares available today? Or Vista not working as expected? Might be few of the reasons. So the war of Open Source Vs Microsoft had already begun. Which side are you on? I support open source. At least if not war I like the competition with MS.  Most of the things I use daily keeping the OS aside are open sources and are free wares. And I am sure most of you out there will be using the free services of some one, yet we fail to recognize and acknowledge the importance and usage. Take it from the Instant Messengers, Mail accounts, forums, blogs, downloads and lot of utilities that are installed all comes free, there are few widely used of the many present out there.  Well these might be free but some did the effort to get all those applications.

Coming to Open Source, I use most of them in my day to day life. If they are not going to give me those facilities and sources for free today I will have to close down all and will be struggling to get my own things up. To accept the fact there are out standing applications available as open sources, it is just that people are not aware. A friend of mine who is a software engineer for the past 3 years was setting up a site and he is going to take a paid service when I actually told him he can go for one of the open sources already available. He was like they are not ‘Ad Free’. I was shocked and told him that is a misconception and told him some facts. If a Software guy doesn’t know open sources how will a common man know.

So decided today to start an awareness program on open source. Do some ads or write some analytical statistics of the programs that are available and tell the people out there how good the things are. If you are interested in joining me please get in touch I will be happy to work with you and make a better software world.

Something Today

Today is a holiday coz of Vinayaka Chavithi. "Happy Vinayaka Chavithi" to all who celebrate it. Attended a workshop on joomla. It was quite informative and is given by Mark from fboat.org at the India Campus Crusade For Christ. Had a tough time figuring out the address. First went to the proper campus but some one there gave us a wrong information that its not there and so we went to another campus and again was directed to the old one so was driving for a total of 2 hrs. Good that we could reach on time even after a delay of 1 hour :).

The session was quite informative and useful at least for me. So now planning to move one of my sites to joomla. With direct hands on during the training with proper material gave a good experience for us by the end of day.

And one more interesting thing for today is the ‘Google Chrome’ the google browser. Naturally being a fan of Google I liked it. Though I found issues with embedded objects I think I can live with them and still use the simple and faster interface that they are providing.

Now from Mozilla to Google Chrome :) (I still support and prefer Mozilla for it is one of the best in Open Source, but only after Chrome now) Well it has quite good features and most of the code is third party including the Mozilla and Safari engines and the I wonder how they could manage to get the browser faster still by using all the third party components. No statistics as of now but I read some where it is 3 times faster than the IE. Will have to wait for the statistics and see what it is up to. I know it will live to the expectations.. Too much of confidence huh? Well I like it that much.

And now successfully 3 months completed after applying for BSNL connection for net and is still waiting :( Hope I will get it soon. That’s what they say when ever I call them.

Well that’s all for now. Need to rest for day I think.

CMS ??

Was a bit puzzled all these days what these CMS (Content Management Systems) are up to and what all they can provide, also as I always wanted each detail to be my design, so I haven't looked at them till now. But at last made up my mind to look and see what I can do with them and how much can I customize. So started to work on them today. Got a head ache and noting else. But they look to be powerful and are capable of doing many things which I may not be interested in using but hope it will be of some use. Evaluating Joomla and Drupal which I will remove later. Drupal is better and more 'non understandable' (complex :D) but going by the reviews looks like I will have to use that only. Hope I will learn something and get it working asap on a live site :. Still at office to take a conf call at 8:30 pm. Waiting to finish that and go home soon ……..

One more Love Story...

Liked it a lot.. May be worth, to be in my blog...

I am Sudhagar, a software engineer in a reputed company in Chennai. I am one of the luckiest guys in this world. The reasons being my loving wife, Deepa and my charming 7 years old daughter, Revathi. I live in an apartment in Vadapalani. I have to tell about my Wife. The most innocent, always smiling and caring. Even though she completed her Computer Science Engineering, she engineers only my family now. She respects me more than the God. Atleast once in a week she would go to Vadapalani Murugan Koil but I hardly accompany her even after her request. About my kid, the most naughty and will come up with millions of questions a day. My wife is more interested than me in answering those questions.

The incident happened a couple of weeks ago. One afternoon after a heavy lunch, when I was reviewing a CICS-DB2 project requirements, my phone rang.
Me: Hello, Sudhagar here.
Satya: Hello Sir! I am Satya here. I am Deepa's friend. Can I speak to you for 2 minutes?
Me: Yeah. Go ahead.
Satya: I want to meet you today in person to tell you something which is important.
Me: About what?
Satya: Sir, I can tell you in person. Can you come to "Richie Rich" ice cream shop today around 6'o clock?
Me: Ok (with some hesitation)

Who is this guy? I googled my brain for a moment. Yes. I heard this name from my wife. This guy and my wife were in love during their college days. But this guy avoided and absconded in the last year of their engineering. My wife has never hidden anything from me. I know about her right from her childhood till our marriage, all about her friends, her nick names in schools & colleges, incidents happened and everything. The same way she confessed about her love also which she didn't do to her parents. But why does he want me to meet him now?....
Time passed by. "Should I meet him or leave it?". I could not complete my review of the requirements. While I was having a coffee, my phone again rang. It's my wife.

Deepa: Sudha! My mother has come. Can you pick Revathi from school & come?
Me: Ok pa. I will pick up & come. Anything special from your mother?
Deepa: Nothing. Just like that she is visiting us.
I left the office by 5:00 to pick my child from the school. Every time I go to pick her we would go to "Richie Rich" ice cream shop. Revathi loves it so much. After picking up Revathi, we went to the shop. Revathi told, "Appa! Today I need bigggg icecream". I said OK. I ordered and Revathi was having the icecream when that guy appeared. Thin physic and gloomy face with dry eyes.
Satya: Hello Sir! I am Satya. Thanks for coming.
Me: Hi.
Satya: Hope you know about me. Deepa would have told. She never hides anything from their loved ones.
Me: (No answer. With worried face – Satya continued)
Satya: I know you would be surprised on my call. But this is my last wish!
Me: Last wish?
Satya: Even Deepa does not know why I left her even without telling her. I was diagnosed "Blood Cancer" when I was in the last year of engineering. The doctor fixed my last day that time itself. Unfortunately I had to live till this time (with a smile in his face)
Me: (No reaction)
Satya: I know that if I had said the same thing to Deepa, she would not have agreed to leave me. I know she was hurt but I wanted her to live happily. To avoid her contacting me by any chance, I did not tell anybody where I was leaving. But now I feel my last date has come. I need a favor from you Sir!
Me: Yeah. Tell me.
Satya: I want to see Deepa for the last time. I don't want her to see me. I will see her from a long distance. Could you please bring her to Vadapalani Murugan koil tomorrow evening?
(My mouth can utter only "YES" to his request)
Me: I don't know what to say! I feel very sorry for you. I will bring my wife tomorrow.
Satya: Thanks a lot Sir! I will remember this till I live! (laughing) Sorry! For a week or so!
He left the place. With a big sigh, I turned to my child and she was finishing her ice cream. Revathi asked, "who is that appa?". "He is your….hmm… my friend!". We returned home. As usual the day ended. Next day when I started to office, "Deeps! Today shall we go to Murugan koil?". Surprised but to tease me she told, "My mother told yesterday that now-a-days software engineers are under a great stress! Please do not think about something always. You can stay rest today!". I could not react to that. I just smiled and told, "Ok Deeps. We will leave by 6'o clock in the evening. I will pick Revathi & come".
I was waiting to start from the office. I reached home after picking up Revathi. It was 5:45.
Me: Deeps! Are you ready?
Deepa: haan!

After freshening, we started to temple. After reaching the temple, I could find him completely different in saint's dress. Nobody can recognize him. As usual I followed my wife in the temple and was listening all her old stories. She said she was very happy that I was coming with her to the temple. After sometime I could find Satya. I thought he left the place. With a great relief, I had dinner outside with my wife & kid and went home.

With a great amount of Satisfaction, I went to sleep. In the late night, I heard somebody sobbing in the balcony.
For the first time, I saw my wife crying alone, with tears in my eyes.

Yes, love is never forgotten!!

He was recognized by her.

Something Interesting - Sound Editing

Today was trying with some sound editing and my colleague suggested this software GoldWave. Trust me its really good and I found it useful. Fiddled with it enough and I think I am going to use it. Now I should be able to do a better recording. And now I need a better head phones. Hope to buy them soon if work at office is not too much. Also I would be able to solve the issues of converting into different formats now. Hope for the best. There is a review that needs to be done at office and I am starting the review sessions with my FS. This is for the new applications that we are planning to develop. May be I will work on that as soon as I reach office.

Bomb Blasts in Bangalore

8 Bomb blasts are reported till now. Thank God only one causality and few injured. Was a shocking news in the afternoon after I just came from lunch.

I didn't have a proper sleep last night with some bad dreams and also today morning Mom called and said she got some bad dream about me not being well and wanted to be careful today. So was a kind of not feeling well. So tried to cheer up myself and started to office late. Came out and saw it was drizzling. Weather was awesome and not it a mood to work but then have to go to office. So decided to make the best of that. Took my ipod and made sure that I left my jacket so that I can enjoy the weather. Even if I get wet I am fine with that but not carrying a jacket.

Reached office. Attended a meeting and came out. No mood to work so tried to do some time pass. And one of my friends got the idea of going to Nandi Hills in that weather. So tried to see if it can work. But as usual coz of work pressures of some of them have to drop out the plan. Lunch time :) Went out and had a nice lunch at Paramount. Came back to office to find there were bomb blasts and rushed to TV room to get confirmation and yes it was true. The number started increasing from 1 to 7 in 30 mins. Was quite a bit disturbed and wanted to leave home.

Left office and saw it was every thing normal in the area. Reached my cousins place and spent some time with the kids.

But not in a very good mood even as I write this. Not sure why. It doesn't affect me directly but then 'Do people have to be so cruel?'...

Kaki Kaki

Well I was thinking to entertain my niece by telling some kids poems and couldn't recollect even one which I have learnt in my child hood and this was around a fortnight ago. Today was waiting for giving my scooter for servicing and out of the blue this poem just came out without a break in the flow and this is also one of which I tried to recollected on that day. Glad that I still remembered it. Here it goes and hope its correct...

à°•ాà°•ి à°•ాà°•ి, కడవల à°•ాà°•ి
à°•ాà°•ి à°¨ోà°Ÿ్à°²ో à°¦ీà°ªం à°ªెà°¡ిà°¤ే

à°ªిà°²్à°² à°ªేà°°ు మల్à°²ె à°®ొà°—్à°—
à°¨ా à°ªేà°°ు జమింà°¦ాà°°్ .

And now I wonder from where and how could this be remembered at some odd point even when I was not thinking about it..

Looks like my brain took so long to give results of the search which was called fortnight ago. Well brain not performing or memory lost ? Aging problems can't help :)

A Difficult Judgment

In a small town in India, a person decided to open up his Bar business, which was right opposite to the Temple. The Temple its congregation started a campaign to block the Bar from opening with petitions and prayed daily against his business.
Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the Bar and it was burnt to the ground.
The temple folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the Bar owner sued the Temple authorities on the grounds that the Temple through its congregation prayers was ultimately responsible for the demise of his bar shop, either through direct or indirect actions or means.

In its reply to the court, the temple vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection that their prayers were reasons to the bar shop's demise.
As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork at the hearing and commented:

I don't know how I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork,

We have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer

and

We have an entire temple and its devotees that doesn't.

Heal Our Land

A nice song which I heard recently and I like it a lot. You can listen it here

Heal Our Land

Turn the hearts of the fathers to the hearts of the children
O Lord come and heal, heal our land
Take the pain take the shame of the past generations
O Lord come and heal, heal our land

Lord heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land

Come repair what is broken in the heart in the spirit
O Lord come and heal, heal our land
Restoring the Father in the heart of this nation
O Lord come and heal, heal our land

Lord heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land

We are fathered by You, You are faithful and true,
Restore and renew what is lost.
Change the face of this land,
Touch with Your tender hand.
O Lord come and heal, heal our land.

Lord heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land

Let the Son of Righteousness
Come arise over us,
O Lord come and heal, heal our land
With healing in Your wings,
Your love changes all things,
O Lord come and heal, heal our land

Lord heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land
O Lord heal our land
Heal our land

The Parachute

Nice story and here it goes ....

Charles Plum, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, was a jet fighter pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected & parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured & spent six years in a Communist prison.

He survived that ordeal & now lectures about lessons learned from that experience.

One day, when Plumb & his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man at another table came up & said, "You're Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!"

"How in the world did you know that?" asked Plumb.

"I packed your parachute," the man replied. Plumb gasped in surprise & gratitude. The man pumped his hand & said, "I guess it worked!"

Plumb assured him, "It sure did-if your 'chute hadn't worked, I wouldn't be here today."

Plumb couldn't sleep that night, thinking about that man. Plumb says, 'I kept wondering what he might have looked like in a Navy uniform-a Dixie cup hat, a bib in the back, and bell bottom trousers. I wondered how many times I might have passed him on the Kitty Hawk. I wondered how many times I might have seen him & not even said good morning, how are you or anything because, you see, I was a fighter pilot & he was just a sailor.

Plumb thought of the many hours the sailor had spent on a long wooden table in the bowels of the ship carefully weaving the shrouds & folding the silks of each chute, holding in his hands each time the fate of someone he didn't know. Now, Plumb asks his audience, 'Who's packing your parachute?' Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day.

Plumb also points out that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory-he needed his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, & his spiritual parachute."

He called on all these supports before reaching safety. His experience reminds us all to prepare ourselves to weather whatever storms lie ahead.

Suggestion: Recognize people who pack your parachute & strengthen yourself to prevail through tough times.

One more today ...

While on my way to office today I again have noticed two people scuffling on road. It is on the main Hosur road and in between the main road and service road. There was a auto guy and another fellow on bicycle. They are hitting each other. Man! what got them into that thing I don't know but is it required to fight on the road. And the world behaved as world not intervening in it including me. 12,000 vehicles per hour is the frequency on that road and the good part is no one stopped and I too didn't. But early in the morning may be about 7:45 seeing these things disturbs a lot.

So again the conclusion of this is ...

Be careful buddy. You never know when your time comes. Hope you guys try to avoid rather than getting into it. Please don't get into such things with some unruly people. Even if you get into don't call me :)

Fire Fox is here

Hmm, Downloaded the Fire Fox 3. Well looks good for now. Not many UI changes need to check that out later. But I can feel the change in speed of rendering the page. Its much better than Fire Fox 2.0 and IE.

Need to tell something. I was just coming to office and there was a speed breaker ahead some 10 mts away. Then a guy riding LML Freedom crossed me on a very high speed. I was wondering how good this guy's bike brake should be that he is going so fast even at this short distance, also thinking if he will be braking or will be making a way out from the side coz there is not enough space before. All this in a fraction of seconds while I am still thinking and before arrived for a conclusion BANG!@#$%&* the guy had hit a Baleno and flew over his bike. I was shocked. I am the one nearest to him. I just stopped with the fallen bike beside me and that guy in front of his bike. Man, the accident was so drastic. The bike stood vertical with its front wheel down and the guy flew on to the car and hit it and had landed on the road. Luckily I feel the helmet had saved him. And I just stood there on my scooter not knowing what to do. The guy got up on his own and some one had come to help to get his bike up. And me thinking how safe is it even to travel by car or bike. Well can’t think of anything else. Then I came to this world to offer some help by then few people have gathered. The Baleno, bumper is gone for not his fault. Now this guy looks like some non tech worker don't know how they will settle it.

If I recollect the incident I just laugh cos I couldn't understand how it happened . How could that be possible? Was the guy sleeping when he did that?

This was the third incident that I witnessed after coming to Bangalore where I was the nearest spectator. So the conclusion is …

Be ready buddy. Don’t know when your time comes

Help Fire Fox

Firefox, the undoubtedly most popular web browser, is all set to get into Guinness Book of World Record for most number of downloads in a day.

Firefox is going to achieve this record with the help of the user community it is building at Spreadfirefox http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord.

If you are a Firefox fan and willing to support Firefox to set the record, all you need to do is head over to the download day home page and pledge your allegiance. As I'm writing this post 1,589,672 people already pledged to support Firefox download.

I'm more than happy to be part of the program to waiting to see the first free software to get in to Guinness Book Of World Records.

Do your part to make it happen.

And for the users using IE just wanted to tell you that Fire Fox is far than IE. Try using it you can feel the difference :)

Out to IFC

Well going out on a Team Outing to Innovative Film City. No Work ha ha. Well bit excited as going to a new place. And .....

As I was reading the news paper today there was something in times and of course it might be well known issue as people made it that way.. titled "UK lawmaker sorry over litter slur against Indians". Not sure why she (Lucy Ivimy, Councillor in Hammersmith and Fulham) was sorry for statement she made - “disregard for the cleanliness of a public area is normal behaviour” in India.

To accept the fact it is true by 95%. Even as I notice at the public places its often then even educated people litter the place and throw garbage every where. May be we need to learn from this. Not for that statement if we recollect or observe where we dump things we can make a difference. People travelling by even luxury cars dump wrappers on the high way. I also have done it while travelling by train the waste I just throw out of the window.

May be the time for us to learn and make things better. Instead of making fuss that some one had said something we can take it positive and learn . Learn People, Learn India.

Ok time for a meeting. Will post the today's trip details later.
